Turkey Time
Posted by in whoopjamboreehooHard to believe it now, but the new picture on my homepage is from Thanksgiving last year, when I met my sister and my family in Santa Fe as my roadtrip neared its conclusion. That memory serves to remind me of what I’m thankful for: my family, both local and national, immediate and extended. Each stop on that roadtrip reminded me of the family and friends in my life, and how incredible all of them really are. It’s amazing how lucky one guy can be. (And I’m doubly lucky, because all my friends seem to live in awesome places.) Although I’d love to live next door to everyone (the physics of the spacetime continuum might disallow that, but I’m sure someone will find a workaround soon), the effort, planning, and infrequent nature of these visits make them all the better.
I’m also reminded that if there’s solace to be found in picking up and leaving home, in the hurt of homesickness, it’s the prospect of coming back. There isn’t anyone else around who will treat you – or put up with you, more like – the way your family will.
This has been the Cheesy Thanksgiving Post!
